WILL OF ROBERT WATTS OF ROTHWELL 1521
In the name of God amen, the second day of October, the year of our Lord 1521, I Robert Watts of Rothwell, whole of mind & sick in body, make my will in this manner
First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God, to our Lady Saint Mary & to all the saints in heaven, my body to be buried in the churchyard of Saint Saviours Rothwell,
Item for my mortuary as the custom is there. I bequeath to the high altar, for my tithes & offerings forgotten 12d
Item to the same altar 4d to the buying of things necessary to the service of God
Item to the church of Lincoln 2d
Item to the reparations of the same church of Rothwell 4 sheep
Item to the bells 2d
Item to the sepulchre in the same church 3 sheep
Item to the mending of the highway 20d
Item to the chapel of our lady in Rothwell 6 sheep
Item to every sister of the house of St. John Baptist in Rothwell aforesaid 8d
Item to the church of "Lowdyngton" 2 quarters of barley
Item I bequeath to Everton church 4 strike of barley
Item to Broughton church a quarter of barley
Item I bequeath to John my son a cow & 20 sheep
Item to Agnes Kent my daughter a cow & 6 ewes
Item to Jone my daughter a cow & 2 sheep
Item to William my son my second shod cart and 26s 8d
Item I bequeath to Elizabeth my daughter a heifer & 26s 8d also I bequeath that a trentall be done for my soul, my wife's soul & all Christian souls.
Item I bequeath to John Kent my godson a ewe
Item I bequeath to Meiyer [Marjery?] Fas [of] Sakesley my goddaughter 12d. Also Sir John Bowro 12d
also Sir William Rothwell, also to Thomas Ward, my wife's son a quarter barley. The residue of my goods here not bequeathed, after my debts paid, this my will fulfilled, I give & bequeath to Thomas Kent & William Grey as they thereof dispose & ordain for the health of my soul, please God & those same Thomas & William I ordain set & make my faithful Executors as God unto them shall be seen to be done, also I will that Sir John Bowes my "gostely father" & Sir William Rothwell.... supervisors of this my will that it be performed & fulfilled & they for to have for their labours every one of them two strikes of barley, These witness William More Edmond Unyon ? Thomas Ward with others.
