WILL OF JOHN STEVYNS OF SULGRAVE 1518

In the name of God Amen the 15th day of the month of July in the year of our Lord God 1518, I John Stevyns of Sulgrave in the County of Northampton, of good and of a whole mind make my testament in this manner and form following.
First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God, to our Lady Saint Mary and to all the company of Heaven and my body to be buried in the church yard of Sulgrave furthermore I bequeath to the mother church of Lincoln 4d.
Item to the church of Sulgrave for to buy a good cope

Item to Isabel ... of Buckingham 12 strike of malt and a pair of sheets.
Item to Ric....... of Helmden 12 strike of malt.
Item to John Pyle my godson one bullock & a pair of sheets and 2 sheep.
Item to Emmat my sister.......... strike of malt, 4 strike of winter corn, a red cape, a green gown, a ...... of "lamber bedys" and those lamber bedys shall remain..... to William my son and after his departing to remain to the next of kin. Item to William Ponter 2 sheep and a bullock of [a] year old.

I will that my son William have and enjoy all my houses with the "mesys" [messuages ?] and the land thereto "longyn" with the all appurtenances in the town and fields of Sulgrave and if it shall fortune the foresaid William to die without heirs that then the house that I had be end...... the land in the town and in the fields of Sulgrave with the appurtenances thereto [be]longing shall return to Emmat my sister during her life and after her decease to return to Robert Clarke of Braunston and his heirs Also if William my son die without heirs I will that the house called Abbeys house the which I bought ... the "behowe" of the church of Sulgrave for ever with all the appurtenances thereto [be]longing in the town and fields aforesaid.
Also if William my son shall depart within the years of discretion I will that all the rest of my goods be "praised" by 4 substantial men and then a priest to sing for me & my.... as long as my goods last and the priest shall have yearly £5 6s 8d.
Item I give to every one of my godchildren one sheep..
Also I will that Henry Wilkins of Weston give an ox to Weedon Church for all manner of debt and debts that he oweth to me. If he make any delay or strife and will not pay the ox I will that my Executors shall recover of him 25s and 2 oxen the which he oweth me also.
I will that Jone Browne and Jane Cole have a gr..... less betwixt them and every one a sheep.
Item to Thomas Stevyns one sheep.
Item to Thomas Newport a sheep. Also I bequeath to Katrine Mosse my wife's sister her best gown, her best cape, her best kyrtel that is left. The rest of my goods with the yearly rents of my lands that is not bequeathed I will that it remain till my son be of lawful discretion ]?] in the keeping of Sir Edmund Pargiter and Robert Pargiter whom I make my executors [large section of film blurred] that I John Hinton vicar of the same ..... and William Lovell to [be] overseers that every thing in the testament ........ performed and to have for their labours amongst all them equally to be delivered...... these be witness Sir John Hinton vicar, Thomas Ayles John Gyles alias Hynson William Lovell with other "moo"
